When I was completing my internship and preparing to become a registered dietitian, there was a popular saying:  “Eat to live, don’t live to eat.”  That was the creed, the mantra for good, sound nutritional advice.  I’m not going to lie…I had a BIG problem with that because I couldn’t choose one over the other!

I grew up on a farm, in Georgia, with strong females, who loved to cook.  Food was comfort and family gatherings and bliss and a battle.  I don’t think I am alone in this struggle.  For many years, I devoted way too much time to this internal food fight.

My goal for this section is to offer things I have learned that helped me find a healthy balance between “eating to live” and “living to eat”.  Under nutrients, I will share lots of information about the 6 building blocks of our diet and how/why each play a vital role.  In the Special Diets section, I will help decipher the diet rationale,  who may or may not be a candidate, and of course, what foods are appropriate to include.  For both, I will provide and reference recipes, cookbooks, bloggers, and other helpful tools.

Please be patient…I want to do this right, so it may take some time for the Nutrition section to really take shape.  It is a work in progress!
