Maui, the Valley Isle, continues to rank as one of the top island destinations in the world and rightly so! From its picturesque beaches to lush, tropical hideaways, Maui offers a vast array of activities and sights not-to-be-missed. Exciting excursions are available by land, air, or ocean for every “adrenaline” level. Be advised, time is always the enemy on Maui because there’s just not enough of it. After my first visit, I realized that I really did need a bucket list in order to make sure nothing is missed. So, I created one: my 99 Things To Do In Maui (plus 1 hidden gem). Full disclosure– I may not ever check off all 99, but I am fully committed to trying! As the high season for Hawaii travel approaches, I hope you will find this list helpful in planning your Maui adventures, and please feel free to share your favorites as well in the comments below.

Island Hop for a Day to Moloka’i

Island hop by ferry over to Moloka’i,  just 8 miles across the Pailolo channel.  Take the famous cliff-hugging mule ride along the Kalaupapa Trail which descends down to the peninsula. It is now called Kalaupapa National Park but it served as a leper’s colony for more than a century.  The priest who sacrificed his life to work here was canonized in 2009 and is now known as Saint Damien of Moloka’i.  Moloka’i is also home to the largest reef system in the U.S. and the world’s highest sea cliff’s.

So there you have my top 99 things to do in Maui plus my extra island hopping excursion to Moloka’i.  With truly something for everyone, Maui justly deserves its top destination ranking, and its diversity keeps all of us coming back again and again!
