It’s official – it’s SUMMER… it’s HOT… and I need a COCKTAIL (without all the calories and guilt)! With the summer cookouts, holiday get-togethers (hello 4th of July), lazy lake days, vacays and staycays already here, I have been busy mixing up some new skinny summer cocktails plus trying some new products and cheat-niques to lower the calories (often sugar) without sacrificing the great taste.

First up, let’s get a handle on the amount of calories in some of our favorites.  After all, how can we get skinny cocktails without knowing the numbers???

Wine, Spirits and Beer

  • 5 oz. Red Wine = 125 calories
  • 5 oz. White Wine = 121 calories
  • 5 oz. Rose = 105 calories
  • 5 oz. Champagne = 84 calories
  • 1 oz. Vodka, rum (light), tequila = 64 calories
  • 1 oz. Gin = 74 calories
  • 12 oz. Michelob Ultra = 95 calories

Zero Calorie Mixers

  • Be Mixed – flavors: Margarita, Ginger Lime, & Cucumber Mint

  • “Bubbly Waters” – otherwise known as sparkling waters, seltzer (water + carbon dioxide), and club soda (water + CO2 + potassium sulfate + potassium bicarbonate which gives slightly salty flavor).  Favorites in this category (all with multiple flavors):
  • Diet Sodas (diet coke, diet 7-up, etc…
  • RSVP Skinnies – powdered mixer (margarita and cosmopolitan)

How about another zero calorie hack…a recipe for Simple Syrup!

Bring 2 cups water to a boil and add ¼ cup Stevia (I like Sweet Leaf).  Simmer until dissolved. Reserve, store, and use as needed to sweeten.

Now we are ready for some of my favorite recipes with additional tips to amp of the flavor without adding oodles of calories!
